Interest in Pinterest: Blueberry Angel Food Cake March 9, 2013

I found this recipe while browsing Pinterest and thought it was easy enough to give it a try. All you need is a box of angel food cake mix and a 22 oz can of blueberry pie filling.

Mix until blended well

DO NOT cook how the instructions state. I also tried the pineapple one and it overflowed in the oven, big mess.

Cook at 350 in a ungreased 9×13 pan for 30 minutes.

The taste was lite and fluffy. The picture above was my end product however the middle wasn’t cooked and it fell. Make sure you check the middle with a tooth pick.

This is a good dessert and pretty good for you. It is 2pts a slice on Weight Watchers!

My Interest in Pinterest: Growing Green Onions January 14, 2013

If you “do” Pinterest then you may have seen the a picture of green onions sitting in some water. Well, I checked out the link that followed the picture and got me interested in this smart idea. The next time you buy some green onions do not throw away the  bottom bulb portion. Cut off what you need for your recipe, dinner, etc then toss the bulbs into a glass with a bit of water. They’ll begin to grow and give you new green onions to use for a long time! I had to try this out and I was happy with the results.

I cut theses about a week ago, and they have grown a lot in just a few days. Pretty neat, huh?

My Interest in Pinterest: Apple Rolls December 19, 2012

I have fallen in love with a website. I didn’t think anyone could top my favorite but Pinterest is stealing my heart away. I love to try new ideas that I find and I also enjoy just looking at what others have found. I decided that I am going to try to post 1 activity that I found on Pinterest at least once a month. I would like to try for once a week but I will make say once a month to keep from fibbing.

Here is my first go at Interest in Pinterest: Apple Rolls

As with many things on Pinterest, the website was just a link to a picture. However, under the image it had the following directions.

apple rolls

Crescent rolls + Sliced apples + Cinnamon, bake for 11-13 min. at 350

I added a little sugar to half of the rolls to make them a bit sweeter but I honestly couldn’t tell the difference, so save the calories. Also, a bit of advice, use small slices of apple. The large pieces didn’t cook all the way and had an odd texture. The taste was great and super easy to make. Great for a quick breakfast.

Make Do with What You’ve Got – Dog Bed November 3, 2012

The number one rule in our house is not to waste anything. We try to be sustainable and have as little impact on the earth as possible. I am always tiring to be “green” about my store purchases and try to make what I can instead of buying ready-to-use items. Always, back to the the reason I started writing this blog. While we were on vacation my crazy dog decided to wreak havoc on our bedroom. She destroyed the following in the matter of hours.

  • Comforter
  • Area Rug
  • Her Dog Bed
  • The Other Dogs Bed
  • The Door
  • The Wall
  • Surge Protector
  • PJ
  • etc

I have to replace all these things due to me being anal about my bedroom being clean and organized. On a side note, if my mother reads this she is going to think I’m nuts because growing up I had a messy room,a messy car, everything messy. 10 years later, I get mad if someone leaves a candy wrapper in my car or my bed isn’t made perfectly.

While I can can buy the small dog bed for next to nothing at the store the X-Large dog bed is well over $50 and that is for a cheap one. Solution, I let my fingers do the walking to Pinterest. There I found a no-sew dog bed.

  • 2 fleece blankets (cut the ends and tie together)
  • Egg crate mattress (had extra one in the attic)

Total $5.00
